Promoting your Call for Papers
As the publisher, Hindawi undertakes significant promotional activities to increase visibility and reach, but the most successful Special Issues are those that are supported and promoted by their Guest Editors. Promoting the Call for Papers to potential contributing authors is key to attracting a sufficient quantity of high quality submissions.
You can begin promoting your Call for Papers as soon as it is published on Hindawi.com. Hindawi’s Marketing Team will conduct initial outreach on your behalf by sending the Call for Papers to researchers working in relevant fields.
Your Call for Papers will also be promoted to visitors to Hindawi.com, appearing in the ‘Open Special Issues’ section of the journal.
You should undertake your own promotion to help your Call for Papers to attract quality submissions. Previous Guest Editors have found the following activities to be useful:
- Share your Call for Papers with your contacts directly. It’s more meaningful to receive an invitation from a friend or a colleague than from a publisher. Hindawi provides a promotional PDF version of your Call for Papers that you can send as an email attachment. Consider making personalized requests to contacts that you know could contribute to your Special Issue.
- Add a short description of the Call for Papers, along with a hyperlink to the page on Hindawi.com, to the bottom of your email signature.
- Include a one page slide at the end of conference presentations, alerting colleagues to your Call for Papers, and inviting them to participate.
- Use social media to promote your Call for Papers. Include a link to your Call for Papers on Hindawi.com as this will provide potential contributing authors with all the information they need. Tag Hindawi – for example, using @Hindawi on Twitter – and we will amplify your promotion.
- Maintain contact with authors who have expressed an interest in participating in your Special Issue. Providing them with support ensures that they’re able to submit a suitable manuscript. Be wary of developing potential conflicts of interest, however. See our guide ‘Managing Conflicts of Interest’ for more details.
Calls for Papers that are supported and promoted by their Guest Editors receive more high-quality, relevant submissions. These Special Issues are therefore more likely to succeed. Typically we must receive a minimum of 20 submissions for a Special Issue to be successful.
